Free at Last by Karleigh Sue

Just stopping by to share a card made using Free at Last by Karleigh Sue- isn't she amazing?! I had fun colouring her up ( with copics) , so much hair to tackle!! I also created a little scene for her using a castle stamp that I have in my stash ( made by Visible Image, one of my favourite stamp companies). The castle and background scene was coloured with promarkers as sadly I don't have enough greens in copics- yet! I'm definitely working on that one but sshhh don't tell hubby  ;)

The senti is also hand stamped. I wanted to show that Cheri's pin ups can be used for cards for girl friends as well as men- you just need the right sentiment to make it work.

Don't forget if you are a Facebook user and haven't joined up already, you can follow Cheri's page The Coloring Queen- dom and join in our growing community of colourists. We love to chat about colouring, and see all your projects so pop along if you can. Would be great to see you there!

Mixed Media Mermaid Reward Chart

Good morning! I'm so excited to share my project with you today as it was one of those where you are asked to do something and think " err how the heck am I going to do that?!", but turns out surprisingly well in the end! My friend asked me to create a free standing mermaid reward chart, with a sensory element, for her young daughter.  Definitely a challenge!

Once I got started though the ideas just flowed and it all came together pretty easily.

The mermaid is by Julia Spiri and you can find her here. She is coloured in copics, and given some shimmer on the hair and tail with Wink of Stella.

I created the background with texture paste, and a combination of acrylic paint, dylusions and gelatos. The water droplet stamps are from Inkylicious, and the swirls are from Designs by Rhyn. The textured seaweed, giving that all important sensory element was created with sisal, which I stained with dylusions. A layer of gravel, shells and gems over the top helped to secure it down as well as adding more depth and interest.

To make the rewards I printed some of Julia's wonderful sea themed clip art, strengthening it by dipping in utee in my melt pot. They look so cute and the utee has given them extra shine. They attach via velcro dots, and although there are only three on the canvas at the moment I have created more to be added when the little girls mum wants to up the number of rewards.

To finish off I dotted some glass beads as bubbles around, and some pretty sparkly gems ( because all girls love a bit of sparkle!), before sealing the whole thing with a spray sealant.

I really hope she likes it as much as I do!

One Love by Cheri Shull

Good morning! The sun is shining here in the UK and it promises to be a beautiful day, so today's inspiration card seems to be perfectly timed as I have gone with a chirpy summery, festival feel.

I have used One Love ( part of the Mary Jane collection by Cheri Shull) , coloured with copics and promarkers. I kept the card fairly simple, just using one funky patterned paper, and a sentiment and embellishment from a scrapbooking set I have had lurking for a while.

Don't forget we still have a challenge running here on the blog too. You can find it here. All you have to do is use your favourite colours on any project you like. Simple right? Not many entries as yet so your chances of winning are good if you play along.

If you love colouring too then also hope on over to the Coloring Queen-dom on Facebook. Lots of fun and chat happens there so we'd love you to join in.

Have a great Sunday whatever you are up to ( crafting I hope!)

Altered Phone Case

Rainy Saturdays are made for messy play indoors and today I have been busy altering a plain white phone case to jazz it up a bit.

As you may know I love Visible Image stamps , and I love myth and magic, so I decided to use the Unicorn Magic set. I started by applying alcohol ink and blender all over the case. Once dry I stamped the unicorn in versamark, and used wow glitter embossing powders over the top. I did this in several layers as it didn't quite take the first time, so I filled the gaps with a versamark pen and re applied powder until I got the look I wanted. To make the unicorn pop I used a black fineliner to edge it.

I stamped the sentiment in black archival ink, and filled in the gaps with the pen again. I doodled swirls and stars with the embossing pen and applied silver and gold powders to add more interest and magic.

So much fun to do something a little different and my phone is now totally unique!

Julia Spiri New Release- The Pirate Collection

Wow has Julia Spiri got some amazing images for this weeks new release. I feel so blessed to be on the team and one of the first to get to work with her digis- every time I see them they blow me away!

Today's collection is all about pirates. Oooh arr!! You can find the whole collection here, along with a generous discount so grab them fast.

I have worked with two of the three images. The first is called Scarlett. She is coloured with Clean Color water markers. The papers are scraps from my stash. I distressed the map with tea dye distress ink to give it an aged feel, and luckily I found an anchor stamp in my drawer which made a perfect embellishment.

The second image is called Charlotte. I just had to make something with this one as she shares a name with my eldest daughter!

Again I have used my water markers, and given it a beachy feel with washed wood type papers and bunting, keeping it fairly simple so the image pops.

Freshly Baked by Karleigh Sue

Time for a bit of inspiration Karleigh Sue style, and this week I've cooked up a nice bright card for you using Freshly Baked from the Mary Jane range. I've been in a baking mood myself lately, although don't tell the diet police ;)

I have coloured her with copics, and used elements from one of Cheri's colour club packs to embellish. The patterned paper is from a pad I bought in Lidl a while ago.

Don't forget there's a challenge going on over at the blog- the theme is to use your favourite colours, Do join in if you can.

New Home Card with Julia Spiri Images

Afternoon folks! This week I have been so busy that frustratingly I've barely had time to colour, so today, with the rest of my family busy out in the garden digging and generally doing Spring like things, I have taken the opportunity to enjoy some peace and quality time inside with my pens and finally finish this card that I started two weeks ago.

To create the card I have merged two gorgeous digis, Little Gnome and The Mushroom House from Julia Spiri in Microsoft Word, and added a sentiment. I printed it out, and created a background scene, using various techniques that I have learned following online colouring lessons from Kit and Clowder. If you aren't aware of Kit and Clowder, and want to improve your own colouring I can't recommend these lessons highly enough. Alyce , the creator and tutor is so helpful and encouraging and has really helped me feel confident in my colouring abilities. You can also follow her Facebook page and join in the colouring community. Whether you are a class member or not there is loads to learn from that page alone, and always lots of fun competitions going on too.

Talking of Facebook, you can also find Julia Spiri's page here. Julia also runs regular challenges on her blog so if you are a blogger stop by and join in the fun there too. The challenges are always Anything Goes with an optional twist, and you don't even have to use one of her images to enter ( but why wouldn't you? They are amazing!!) .

It's new release day at Julia Spiri and boy are they beautiful! Everyone loves a mermaid and these are no exception. Simply stunning. You can view the whole collection here.

For my first inspiration I have used Mermaid and Lotus, and teamed her up with Julia's gorgeous Louts clip art. A perfect combination.

My second card uses Oceania Mermaid and Sea clip art. I have made a shaker card, arranging the elemnets in Craft Artist,  and trapped her in a bubble ( felt a bit cruel but I like the effect!)

Karleigh Sue May Challenge Inspiration Post

It's time for a new challenge over at Karleigh Sue, and this month the theme is Use Your Favourite Colour.

I have a few favourite colours, but purple and mint green are two of them, so I have used them as a combo on my card. The digi is called Poodle Skirt 2016 and you can find her here

I have coloured her using Clean Color watermarkers in the following shades:

Skin- Blush and Light Pink
Lips- Pink and Peach Pink
Eyes- Cobalt Blue
Hair- Dark Brown and Beige
Dress- Light Violet, Violet and Mid Grey
Sundae-Green Shadow and Flesh

We have recently been running our challenges over at the Facebook Coloring Queen-dom but as it's such a busy group for chat the challenges were getting a little lost, so we are back on the Karleigh Sue blog this month to keep it simple. We'd still love to see you on Facebook though too so come and join us if you love colouring as much as we do!
