Born to Dance Card for Samantha K

I've been meaning to share this card I have made for Samantha K for a little while but life has been crazy busy so I haven't had much time for blogging.

This was super easy to do, and here's how:

Step One: Colour a piece of watercolour cardstock with a light wash of Aquatint Ink ( or any other watercolour paint will do). Mat and layer onto a distressed base card

Step two: Lightly stamp musical notes randomly in soft grey.

Step 3: Paint Samantha K swirl frame and leave to dry.

Step 4: cut/tear image to size to fit the frame and adhere ( I used the top layer from a beautiful paper napkin)

Step 5: Stamp and heat emboss the sentiment in silver ( stamps by Visible Image)

Step 6:  Glue frame  in place and add flowers, leaves and gems and finish off with die cut corners.

Cogs Canvas for Samantha K Gifts

Hi there. Today I would like to share with you another mixed media piece I have created recently for Samantha K. I love cogs and so I was really happy to see them included in my last DT pack. Sam has designed some brilliant mdf cog clusters and tags with bases and I was itching to have a play with them.

I started by using some thick card which was once the back of a watercolour pad for my base and coated it with black gesso.

I used a combination of Deco Art fluid acrylic and spray inks to add some colour to the panel.

On black card stock I used texture paste through a  panelled stencil by Sweet Poppy designs, which I covered in mica powder and heated until it bubbled. Once dried hard I cut and arranged on my base and on the back of the tag piece ( which was also painted in gesso) and also added some texture sand for more dimension.

Once the sand had dried I arranged my painted cogs and tag on top, alog with some die cut cogs to give even more layers.

Then it was a case of darkening the whole thing down by dry brushing black paint over some areas, leaving the metallic mica showing through. When that was done I attached the top layers and went wild with the gilding wax until I had created an effect I was happy with.

I finished it off with a sentiment from the Sheena Douglass Time Traveller series of stamps.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this. I hope you have enjoyed taking a peek at it too.

Do join Samantha's Facebook Page if you haven't already. We love you to share your mixed media projects over there and it's a great way to keep up with what's going on with new releases etc.

Hope to see you there.

Guest DT for The Male Room

I was thrilled to be announced as the winner over on The Male Room challenge blog recently with this vintage card I created using Visible Image stamps. I often struggle with cards for the fellas, so it was a lovely surprise, and one that has pushed me to create more male themed cards as they kindly invited me to guest DT for them for this months challenge with the theme Space/Science ( you can find it here).

I couldn't decide which of the two themes to create for, so I decided what the heck and did both!

The first feature stamps by Sheena Douglass and he Alchemy range. I really love these and they make male cards so easy- result! The background was created using distress oxide inks and I have used a combination of watercolour paints and sparkle pens to colour the images.

For my second card I used a background paper I created a while ago on my gelli plate, which I spattered with white paint to create a space effect. All the stamps are by Visible Image and I have used a combination of stamping in chalk inks and in Versamark with Wow embossing powders to create my universe. The images are fussy cut and coloured with Sparkle pens.

I really hope you feel inspired to join in this challenge yourself.

Thanks for having me The Male Room.

Just Dance Like Tomorrow Doesn't Exist

My friends teenage daughter loves to street dance and recently asked me to create a 'funky' card to reflect that for her.  It was a bit of a challenge as there don't seem to be any street dance specific stamps out there on the market, so I decided to use the jumping girl from Visible Images Tomorrow Doesn't Exist set. She has so much energy- just like my friends daughter!

To create the background I first used Dylusions spray inks. Then I inked randomly through some stencils ( all the stamps and stencils used on this card are by Visible Image ) with Distress Ink, and stamped music notes and stars in Versafine Clair ink. The sentiment and main image were stamped and heat embossed, and I added some star bursts and also embossed them with Wow glitter embossing powders to give the card a little sparkle.

MDF Journal for Samantha K Gifts

The snow  hit us here in North Hampshire this week and on Friday the schools and many workplaces closed, resulting in me also having a snow day while all the children that I childmind had fun at home with their families, so I used my time well and indulged in  a bit of playing of my own, working on a fab MDF journal from Samantha K

I think I am definitely willing Spring along with this project as I was feeling the need for bright cheery colours, so I went with a floral theme.

I started by sponging a coat of gesso on the journal, then I dragged Dylusions and Pebeo Dyna paints down it on a sponge to create a bright base with a shimmer to it. I wanted a journal that is flat on this occasion, so I opted to stamp directly onto the wood. The main image is by Indigo Blu and I have used background stamps from Chocolate Baroque, Stampin' Up and Visible Image, plus a small butterfly I had from a magazine a long time ago. I used a combination of Golden High Flow Acrylics and Indigo Blu Luscious paints to pick out details in the main image and paint the flowers.

I really need to get a grip of my garden this Spring and I am thinking this may be a perfect place to jot down my ideas for it. Don't you agree?

If you aren't a follower already then why not join the Samantha K Mixed Media and Crafting Facebook Group and share your mixed media projects with us. We love to see what everyone is making. It's a really friendly and supportive group so come and join in the fun.

Bye for now

Creative Artiste March Challenge DT Post Sponsored by Hannah Oxberry

Helloooooo! It's March, so it's time for a fresh new challenge over at Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge Blog. As always anything mixed media goes so join in if you can.

This month we are kindly sponsored by Hannah Oxberry. Hannah supplies some great mixed media products so do check out her website. The prize this month is a mixed media bundle, but in addition to that Hannah is kindly offering a 15% off code for followers of Creative Artiste. The code is CreativeArtiste15 and is valid until the end of March.

Hannah is a stockist of Tando Creative products, and I have used those on my canvas for this months DT inspiration.

To create my canvas I first used a brayer and acrylic paint to create a mottled sky. I used my gelli plate to create a print in grass greens, which I cut to size and adhered to the canvas. I used a little home from Tando's Whimsical Houses set which I covered in designer papers and stamped and doodled on. The door ,window, and tree were painted with Golden Fluid Acrylics and Dylusions paint. I stamped some text randomly across the sky for added interest, and added some birds.

The flowers, birds and snail are all from Paper Artsy. I used watercolour markers to colour the snail- isn't he cute! He was fussy cut and stuck with matt medium, as was the sunflower ( but I used dylusions paint on that) . The grasses ( stamps are Laurel Leaves by Indigo Blu) were stamped direct to canvas with Versafine Clair ink, and the circular flowers were also stamped direct and coloured with Posca pens.

To finish I used a sentiment stamp from Dylusions.

I hope I've inspired you to play along with us this month. We really do love to see what you are creating.
