Dare to Swim

I'm still yearning for the ocean as you can probably tell from this week's card for Visible Image. I challenged myself to make a CAS card , something that doesn't come easily to me!

I started by taping my card to my mat with low tack tape  and masking off the outer edges, taking care to ensure even measurements all round. I then taped the Fibres stencil over the top and blended  Distressed Oxide inks in Salty Ocean and Crushed Olive through to create my ocean.

I peeled off the tape once happy with the blend.

I then stamped and embossed the jellyfish from Dare To Swim. I painted it using acrylic ink and added highlights with a white gel pen.

To finish I stamped the sentiment and added some bubbles then mat and layered on coordinating card.

Mythical Mermaid Card

As you may have been made aware, this week has seen World Oceans Day being celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of looking after our seas. Todays project for Visible Image was made with that in mind. Obviously mermaids don't really exist, but I like to think they do , and in this card the Mythical Mermaid is watching over her sea creature pals keeping them safe.

My card started from a circular gel print that I had made a while ago while creating backgrounds for the recent summer release of stamps. I made it on my round gelli plate using acrylic paints and the fabulous Ripped Fishnet stencil.

I started by stamping my mermaid in position using a stamp platform. Once stamped, I kept the paper and stamp in place as wanted to lay down a layer of white gesso in the areas for colouring, and them once dry I was able to stamp in the details.

I painted her with skin tone acrylic paint, and used a Sparkle Pen on her top and tail to add some shimmer.

I then stamped the dolphins, and background stamps inside the circle, embossing the bubbles in white and the fish with Distress Glaze.

I coloured the dolphins and sand with Polychromo pencils, and also added some shading to the mermaids features.

To finish I coloured the bubbles and added glossy accents, and mat and layered on complimentary blue card.

The beach really is my happy place, so creating this sea themed card was so relaxing to do. Hopefully I will find time to visit the coast for real soon, and who knows, I may even spot a mermaid !
