Bride Digi by Rachel Gilllham

A long time ago, in what feels like another crafting galaxy, I served on a design team that was managed by a lovely lady called Rachel Gillham. We became firm friends instantly and last Autumn we actually got to meet in person rather than just chatting online, and I was pleased to discover we got on just as well in real life. Neither of us are on that DT any more, but we still chat most days,  and now Rachel has decided to take a leap from crafting with other artists images ,to creating her own for crafters like me to enjoy. At the moment she is predominantly creating colouring pages and is rather excited to have her first book, Plucky Patterns, on sale with Amazon ( you can find it here), but she has also drawn a rather beautiful bride digi stamp, and I was thrilled when she asked me to colour her up. You can find her here in Rachel's shop ( she sells lots of other crafty bits creations too so have a look around).

When I first saw the image I instantly imagined her being pensive and taking stock of the life change she is about to make, and I wanted to create a scene around her to reflect that.  I drew on techniques I have learned from my online colouring classes with Kit and Clowder and designed a surround and window scene, which I coloured with a combination of promarkers and copics.

I added Wink of Stella to her veil to really give it some extra shimmer.

I kept the card fairly simple, using a traditional style paper from my stash, some lace and some flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts. The sentiment is from a wedding set by Visible Image.

I was relieved to hear Rachel say how thrilled she was with my creation. Phew! I'm glad she feels I have done her justice- I hope you agree.

You can also follow Rachel's work on her Facebook page if you like the look of what she does. I know she would love to get some more likes so do pop over and support her. It would mean a lot to us both.

Steampunk Burlesque Scarlett West by Kenny K

I've been a bit distracted from card making lately as scrap booking has taken over while I make a concerted effort to get my kids childhood albums created ( my eldest is 17 so I am a bit behind!) , but when I saw this amazing freebie linked to the February challenge over at Club Kenny K I just had to take part to claim her and have a play. I love Kenny K images- so sassy!

I combined her with some papers from Steampunk Spells by Graphic 45 and another odd sheet from my stash, some sexy lace, sequins and a feather and of course no steampunk card is complete without gears and cogs.

No Space for Dreams

Have you seen the new release stamps from Visible Image yet? If not you really should take a look as they are AMAZING! I treated myself to the genius Face It set this week and also bought the new head mask they have released. I've had a ball playing with them tonight and this is the result.

I teamed the new stamps up with the No Space For Dreams set and I think they all worked so well together.

To create my piece I stamped the facial features and then masked off the sentiment stamp so that just the word 'worries' was visible and stamped that randomly inside the face mask. I covered the face with the insert part of the mask set and stamped and heat embossed the dreamcatcher around the edge, and then used distress ink to colour it. I coloured the face with Aquatint inks, and added a neck.

Then came the fiddly part! I stamped multiple dream catchers on card I had coloured with Gelatos and fussy cut all the feathers to create her hair ( which was inspired by my own daughter's hair as she is currently rocking blue and pink herself!). I coloured the lips with gelatos and went over with a Wink of Stella to give it some shimmer, and added a gem nose piercing for some extra bling.

I must admit she has come out a little more butch looking than I had imagined as I stamped the eyes a little high I think. But that's cool as my daughter and I have decided that the story behind her is that she is trans gender and now she has made the change and is at peace with herself she can release all her worries and live the life she so desperately wants, so it all fits together perfectly and she has really come alive to us the more we look at her.

I'm off to play with the open eyes in the set now so watch this space!

Happy crafting!

I'm Watching You by Julia Spiri

Wow! Julia's new releases just get better and better and this month's is no exception. I'm delighted to be able to share my DT project, using the wonderful new image I'm Watching You. Isn't she incredible?

I chose to use watercolour pens to colour her this time. I'm still very much learning with them as they are so different to my usual go to option of Copics, but I am really pleased with the way she turned out. The backing paper is from the Bohemian Collection by Dovecraft.

Julia has set up a new youtube channel where she uploads videos of her painting her images. They are so captivating so do take a look here.

She also holds a monthly challenge of course, so hop across to the blog if you fancy playing along. We love to see your creations!

Crafts Galore Encore February Challenge DT Post

There's a new challenge over at Crafts Galore Encore and this month our sponsor is the wonderful Kenny K. I'm a huge fan of the Kenny K digis so was thrilled to be able to choose an image to work with. I opted to use Rad Boarder. I always seem to struggle with cards for the boys so this was a perfect chance to stretch myself and step out of my pink comfort zone!

To create my background for this cool dude  I used Brushos on watercolour card, which I spritzed with water. I added some brick work with a mask and distress ink, and then added more graffiti style elements using masks and Dylusions paint. I fussy cut around the image and then layered him on black card to make the image pop and added a stamped sentiment.

We would love to see your creations so do join in if you can.
