Christmas In July Visible Image Style!

It's never too early to start making festive cards and so today I am celebrating Christmas In July with a super sparkly mixed media card using the gorgeous recent release of stamps from Visible Image.

The idea for this card stemmed from me experimenting with the Grunge Christmas Words stamp and embossing powders. Doesn't it look stunning in gold on black card?!

I wanted to combine this with the Shining Star stamp set, and needed to create a night sky effect, so I spritzed the card with Distress Mica sprays. The embossing created a resist so the sparkling powder stayed nice and vibrant and the mica added extra shimmer.

I then took a larger piece of Tim Holtz black mixed media card and stamped and embossed the Shining Star stamps, being careful to place the large star to the side as I needed space to place the smaller card with the words overlapping it.

I dipped the card into Distress Oxide ink that I had spritzed with water, and also some of the mica spray so that the two pieces coordinated. I coloured the smaller stars with a gold paint pen.

When happy with the background I tore the edges of the worded card, and adhered at an angle over the top. I sprayed ink through the Super Star stencil, stamped the star over the top and fussy cut. I also cut and coloured some smaller stars to use as embellishments.

I adhered these with glue gel to add more dimension. Check out that shimmer!

I finished by stamping the sentiment from the Christmas Wishes set and again embossing in gold.

There is a brilliant Summer sale happening right now over on the Visible Image website with a whopping 30% off all items with the code SUMMER30  so do go and take a look and maybe treat yourself to some bargains. Hurry though as it won't last forever!

Random Art Of Kindness

Summer is in full bloom and this weeks project for Visible Image was inspired by the colours in my garden. I'm not a great gardener by any stretch of the imagination, but when we moved here 11yrs ago we were fortunate to inherit stunning rhododendrons and honeysuckle bushes that just care for themselves and provide us with glorious flowers and aromas at this time of year.

I began with an inky background created by laying distress ink on my craft mat, adding water and dabbing watercolour card into.

Once dry, I took the Two Tone stencil and applied some gesso through it randomly to add a layer of interest and knock back the colour a little.

I then stamped flowers from Random Art Of Kindness and heat embossed.

I added a few smaller flowers from the new Flower Power set.

I coloured them with acrylic ink as this is nice and bright.

On an inky mop up sheet I  then stamped a large flower to be the central image, and some small butterflies from the gorgeous Butterfly Effect set, which I die cut and added detail to.

I stamped the stem and adhered the flower over some black sisal fibres for added texture with 3D glue gel.

To finish, I added a sentiment from the incredibly useful Birthday Wishes set ( honestly, every card maker should have this one to hand at all times!), a gem to the centre of the flower and a few white highlights to make the images pop.

There is so much going on over at Visible Image right now, including a new launch of Christmas stamps for Christmas In July, an ATC swap in the facebook group, live demos on youtube and loads of inspiration from the talented design team, so do follow the links below and hit the follow button.
