Flowers for Mothers Day

It's almost Mothers Day here in the UK and what better to go on a card than a big, bold beautiful flower.
For this weeks inspiration for Visible Image I have chosen to combine the fabulously grungy Flower Ink stencil and Mother Definition stamp on a pretty one layer card.

Here's how I achieved it...

I adhered the stencil to some super smooth card and blended a base layer of yellow Distress Oxide ink, deepening until I was happy with the shade.

I then blended brown ink into the centre section.

I then added some shading by working out from the centre in orange and red tones.

Using a small stencil brush and a white pigment ink i then swept the ink out from the centre. This really helped to soften the colours.

I then took the insert to the stencil and coloured around the outer edge of it repeatedly to add more dimension and interest.

Using a stamp platform, I added my sentiment directly on to to the card and added highlights with a white gel pen to make it pop.

Before mat and layering to finish, I added more detail to the middle of the flower, carefully drawing lines with a white paint pen all around the middle before adding in some shading with pencils to create dimension.

I wish all the mums out there a lovely relaxing Mothers Day and for those folk that find the day difficult I send love and hope that you can find something to make you smile a little on the 10th March.

Kick Off Your Birthday

Have you seen the brand new release from Visible Image yet? It's a fabulous collection, and includes some incredible stamps for the sports fans. I have chosen to use Kick Off Your Birthday stamps and Holodeck stencil for my first project for this release as I am pretty sure all of us crafters have a football fan in our life!

I began by cutting some cloud shape masks on a post it note, and also cut an uneven piece to mask off the ground before laying the Holodeck stencil over the top. Distress Oxide inks give such a lovely blend and so these were my ink of choice.

I then removed the masks and coloured the grass, covering over the blue with the opposite side of the post it section.

I stamped the footballer in position in order to ensure that the splatters formed part of the image. The Distress Oxide inks do affect the stamped image as you can see, but as I planned to re stamp and die cut on this occasion it wasn't a problem.

Using the dies I re stamped, embossed,  and cut the main image and football. Before adhering them with gel glue I also stamped the filler stamps on the grassed area for added detail.

Spring is Coming!

Here we are in February already and it's starting to feel like Spring is just around the corner thank goodness. This weeks project for Visible Image was inspired by that Spring feeling and the beautiful tulips I bought last week to cheer up my dear mum, who is recovering from knee surgery.

I began with some watercolour card, on which I sprinkled Dinkles powders and spritzed with water.

I wanted to create some depth for my tulips to sit against, so I used Distress ink through the Leafy stencil. First I used Twisted Citron and then I added another layer with Mowed Lawn.

Using an orange Versafine Clair ink ( as this gives the best detail)) I randomly stamped the background script stamp, and I also added the word Spring in yellow to add a touch more interest.

Then using a stamp platform I added the small stem stamp in green, and stamped the Sketched Tulips over the top.

I stamped the images again onto watercolour card, heat embossed and painted before fussy cutting them.

I coloured the small stems in the background with Posca pen before adhering the tulips.

Of course as this card was inspired by my mum a get well sentiment was a must! The Go To Words stamp set had the perfect one.  And no Spring flower garden is complete without a butterfly or two flitting around, so I added some from the gorgeous Wings of Change set. This finished it off perfectly!
