You're Out of This World

It's a scorcher here is Hampshire today and while I love the sunshine, I hate the heat with a passion, so I kind of of wish I was in another world today ( or at least a cooler one!), Which leads me neatly into the theme for today's card I am sharing.

I've been in a bit of a creative slump recently, and today I was itching to get crafting, and for a while it just wasn't happening ( don't you just hate it when that happens!). Then I remembered a background I made a while ago when idly playing and had an idea. I dug out my trusty box of stamps from Visible Image ( always guaranteed to inspire so check them out yourself on the link) and this card came to life. I just love these stamps , which I believe are sadly retired now. They are perfect for boys cards and artwork.

The background was created with brushos, glossy accents, gilding wax and splatters of acrylic paint. It just screamed outer space to me when I created it. I love brushos as you never quite know what you're going to end up with, which makes the creative process so much fun!

Celebrating Pride Art Journal Spread

It's been a while since I've played in my art journal but this week I felt the urge to throw some brusho's about and see what happened and I have to say I am really proud of the result. The bright colours thrown out by those amazing pigment paints just sang rainbows to me, and little rainbows have been popping up all over my Facebook news feed recently in celebration of Pride month. Those little emojis.  coupled with a very unnecessary thread and predjudiced thread about the LGBT community on a creative group I belong to today, kick started my creative process and this spread somehow emerged magically.

The main image was one I saved a while ago from a National Trust magazine. I knew one day it would just work for me, and today it did!! Point proven yet again that a crafters hoarding is never in vain!

Products used were:

Brusho paints
Dylusion Paints
Paperartsy border stamps
Visible Image stamps
Wow embossing powders and versamark
Stencils
Zig water colour pens
Charcoal pencil
Stickles
Nuvo drops
Black fineliner

Creative Artiste June Challenge #27 DT Post

So I have some exciting news that I have been sitting on and I am finally able to share it with you today- yippee!! I am now a proud member of the design team over at Creative Artiste! I am SO thrilled to have been invited to join the incredibly talented ladies on the team and hope that I can do this fab challenge blog justice with my projects and inspire you to join in with your own mixed media projects.

So, without further ado, here is my debut piece for the June challenge #27.

This month the challenge is kindly sponsored by Judy McKay, who is offering this great prize of stamps and dies, which is also the theme for the challenge this time.

I have used stamps and dies from the new Alchemy collection by Sheena Douglass. I fell in love with them the moment that I saw them and just had to treat myself. My 11yr old daughter loves Harry Potter and wants her bedroom decorated in a magical style, so I have created a canvas for her wall.

I used texture paste and a dragon and stars stencils on my prepared canvas to add some dimension, and then sponged a variety of dark and metallic paints over the top of the whole thing until I had a good coverage. Then I highlighted the pasted areas with gilding polish. The different elements were die cut and stamped, and coloured with dylusions inks ,aqua tint inks, distress oxides and distress pens- so a right mix! Some acetate added a real glass touch to the magnifying glass, and I clear embossed over the bottles to create the same effect on them.

I hope you've enjoyed looking at my work and I have inspired you to join in the challenge.
